I’m more than halfway through my inaugural #Whole30, and like my first go round, I’m learning so much about food and how it affects the body, particularly mine. But I’ll save that convo for a wrap-up post, because this one is for the people who love their wine, love their libations, and might be looking for motivation to keep on truckin’ to that 30-day deadline, sans alcohol.
Or maybe you’ve sworn off alcohol, take medication that doesn’t allow you to drink, or are with child. Whatever the reason, maybe these paleo- and Whole30-safe mocktails will be just the trick for you too. No need to shy away from beverage-heavy social occasions. You can party and not drink alcohol, and it’s even better because there are no beer munchies or hangovers.
Some of you know I recently visited a vineyard and sipped kombucha instead of wine. You just need to be holding a glass, and sipping something. Your brain and fellow revelers will never know the difference.
- Perrier Citron Lemon-Lime or Pink Grapefruit Sparkling Natural Mineral Water
- G.T.’s Enlightened Synergy Kombucha, Trilogy flavor
- Fresh lemon
- Fresh lime
- Fresh orange
- Fancy glasses…wine, martini, highball, etc.
The No-Vodka Soda
I have to credit my mom with this one. It’s nothing revolutionary, and I’m positive scores of others have been doing this for a long time. But for me, it’s a new concept, and I love it. Even my hubby loves it! Because of this concoction, he’s gone alcohol-free with me, and he’s not even doing a Whole30 right now. I swear you’ll think you’re drinking a vodka drink!
So this is super easy. First, slice your citrus so you have it ready for your first (and subsequent) mocktails:
Add some ice to your glass and pour the Perrier over it. Either the lemon-lime or grapefruit naturally-flavored waters are fine. And just in case you are wondering, Perrier is Whole30-safe.
Twist fresh lemon and lime slices slightly, squeezing some juice into your drink, then drop the slices in. I like lemon and lime, but you can do one or the other, whatever your preference.
Take a sip of your sparkly, refreshing beverage and enjoy it, 100% guilt-free!
The basis of the faux Cosmopolitan is G.T.’s Trilogy kombucha. Yes, kombucha (fermented tea) is Whole30-safe. That’s why I specifically drink Triology; it has no added sugar, and is made of “95% G.T.’s organic raw kombucha, raspberry juice, lemon juice, fresh pressed ginger juice, and 100% pure love!!!” Now who wouldn’t want to drink that?
Alright, are you ready for this? Here we go. Pour the kombucha into a fancy martini glass and garnish with a lime twist, or even an orange slice. And don’t underestimate the importance of the fancy glass. If you want to feel like you’re really having a cocktail, the glass is a must.
PS: Kombucha-drenched orange is not only good, it doubles as an appetizer. Stay away from those grain-and-cheese-filled temptations if you’re pouring your own Faux Cosmo at a party! If you must snack, head straight for the crudités and enjoy all the raw carrot, celery, and broccoli you want—without that nasty, chemical-laden dip.
The Wineless Spritzer
These recipes just keep getting easier! For this one, just pour your G.T.’s Trilogy kombucha into a wine glass. Since kombucha is fizzy, it’s already spritzer-like. But if you really wanted to spritz it further, pour a dash of the Perrier Citron or some seltzer water in there.
