WVW: What V Wore

WVW: Sunflower Leopard*

HiiiiiiiiiiiiiiIt’s me!

It’s only been, oh, FOUR MONTHS since my last What V Wore post. I’ve been sharing some looks on Instagram, but this year I’ve re-committed to improving things here on G&G, and these few shots are the beginning.

While the outfit isn’t anything that exciting, these are my first shots with my new Canon 60D, Canon 50mm f1.4 lens, and tripod! I’ll admit self-shot photos with this lens are definitely a challenge, but I am determined to master them. I’m happy with these initial shots and my new hardware. Can’t wait to shoot some video!

I’m obsessed with the necklace I’m wearing in these shots. I had to have it when I first laid eyes on it because I knew it is as close as I’d ever get to the Celine ID nameplate necklace. I wear so often it’s ridiculous.

PS: I also promise to try to smile more this year. :) I may look like Ms. Crankypants, but I really am happy!

Loving the leopard and the fur. Also quite fond of those boots. Baggy trousers and boots like those just don’t suit me.

Thank you! They aren’t really that flattering, even on me. I mean, if you aren’t a size zero, it’s not likely a leopard print across your backside is going to do much for your bottom line. But I still love them!

This is when I hear Wendy’s voice going, “WEAR WHAT YOU WANT!” Who cares if they’re flattering, you know? Sometimes you love something, and love is all you need.

(Srsly loving that necklace. Feeling the need to scour the world for one.)

You’re right! That’s why there IS leopard across my backside. Always wear what I want!

There were two gold necklaces like this one, one by ASOS, the other by Noir. All sold out. Noir may have it in stock in silver (can’t remember). But keep looking…you never know!

Oh my god!!! I desperately want a 60D. And a snazzy new lens. Did you sell your old camera? Do you mind telling me where you picked up your new one?

Anyway, you look stunning as always and I am glad to see that your hair is still very much long and that Instagram was just a tease :)

Hey Erika…I didn’t sell my old body, and am glad my other two lenses (aside from the 50mm) fit on the new camera, cause there is definitely a need for all of them! I would probably sell the old one if I could get some decent money, but I doubt that will happen, so I’ll just keep it as a backup.

I bought it from B&H, online. I also got my Macbook Pro from them. Excellent prices and fast shipping, plus no tax. :)

And yeah, the hair chop…just some pieces in the front. You can’t really see in these shots, but you can tell in person. Got sick of the all one-length look! That’s as big a change as I can handle.

Yay for outfit posts! I was missing those fringe and fur pieces you rock so well! :) Love the printed pants. I have yet to get that daring! LOL

Thanks, MJ! Yeah, really trying to be “back” here on G&G. Now I have no excuses. I have a sweet new camera that is giving me the results I was looking for.

Totally go for the printed pants, lady! They are so fun!

Gosh you’re gorgeous lady! Yours were the first outfit posts that I fell in love with btw. I’m committed to taking better photos this year. I never bought any lenses beyond the kit lens that came with my T2i. Do you have any recs for a photog novice? :)

Really? MY shots were not completely laughable? Thanks!

I’m a novice myself, truly. This is my first lens purchase outside of the 18-55mm kit lens…which should not be underestimated! The 50mm is delicious, but outside of closeups, you really need a LOT of distance to get a tall/wide shot. And that is no exaggeration.

One tip I learned, is in good lighting, you can get a better bokeh with the 18-55mm when you choose the AV setting and dial down the f as low as you can go, which I think might be f3.5. That keeps the aperture more open, so you get that blurred background bloggers so love. Again, I am totally learning right now. I’ve spent two years doing the lazy auto-focus thing. So this year, I am really trying to get a clue!

I just found a great site that I have already found very helpful, and maybe you will too: http://digital-photography-school.com

Hey Courtney, I don’t have a remote. I did have one for my last DSLR and never liked it cause I don’t like shots with the remote in my hand! Maybe I’ll reconsider if I can ditch it right before the shot goes off.

There you are! I miss your “What V Wore” posts so much. No matter which other blogs I may follow, yours always have been – and always will be – my favorite. I think you’ve always had a very distinct style when it comes to outfit posts. Equal parts grit & glamour and I love them.

Yay for more posts in the future, and congrats on the new equipment! Looking good!

B, that comment says a LOT…thank you so much. Sometimes, when I look at other blogs, I wonder if people just think I’m a bore. But then I also think I AM distinctive, because don’t tend to do all the same “in” clothing and accessories you see everywhere else.

My only frustration (and limitation) is my lack of a photographer. Even with my fab new 50mm, my shots would be so much better if there were a human behind the lens to really focus on me or my accessories. Oh well. I think I may be purchasing that camera remote after all.
