My Favorite New Beauty Products

February 27, 2012 · 58 comments

OK, so the real title of this post is: My Favorite New Beauty Products…Especially When You Have No Hot Water. Hmph. Oh yes. I made you all a little vlog in the midst of my “crisis,” as any good blogger does.

And if you’re new to my vlogs, they are straight-up, very bare bones. Just me and the camera, no fancy editing, nothing more than stock iMovie schtuff. Because this is real life, real me—I don’t have time for all that! Maybe one day I’ll get fancy pants about it, but I doubt it.

Products referenced in the video:

  1. Batiste Dry Shampoo
  2. up & up Scented Wipes
  3. up & up Skin Protectant Healing Ointment
  4. A&D Original Ointment
  5. Le Metier de Beaute Precision Liquid Eyeliner (be sure to read the review by Ann of Cult of Pretty)
  6. Essie Escapades Nail Polish
  7. Josie Maran Organic Argan Oil

And I’m wearing:

What beauty products can you not live without? Could you make it three days without hot water?

I am a huge fan of baby wipes! I have been known to steal them from my friends with babies, but now I just buy my own. So many great products – I will definitely be trying that dry shampoo. Btw, your hair is absolutely amazing!!

I really enjoy using Josie Maran Argan oil, I use it on my hair and face for moisture. I get the argan oilfrom QVC because I can get a color stick with it and can get easy pay sometimes. I also use Josie Maran cosmetics.

Hope your water heater on Monday gets fixed real quick so you can get your hot water. Your hair does look really nice.

LOVED your necklace! I hope your hot water is back + running shortly. I love a good dry shampoo… my favorite right now is by Oribe. (And $7 – not bad at all!!) Have been dying to try the Josie Maran oil for a while now… might need to grab it!

Yay, we’ve missed the Vahni vlogs! These all sound like great products. And I totally understand about hot water, we had some problems when we moved into our new flat. We also didn’t have showerheads, so we were filling buckets with boiled water and bathing like that!

UMMM…so not fair that your hair looks like that after 4 days of not washing…mine would be GREASED to my head…lol.
Kudos to you for making a fun little test out of your unfortunate situation…we DO take hot water for granted, right?
Hope it is back up and running!

Last year a freak October snow storm knocked out power here in Connecticut. The outage lasted for ONE WEEK. I live right next door to a hospital and I think that is the only reason that I didn’t lose mine. Everyone on my street had a relative or 10 staying with them just for the convenience a working stove and of course a hot shower. I have never seen anything like that since I moved to the US. News reporters could not capture the frustration that we all felt here in this state during that time. We had light crews from all over the country and CANADA, working with our power company to resolve the problem. The people at my job…by the 3rd day people fell apart, tempers were flaring and moral was at an all time low. I wish we had your video then. These are some really great tips for surviving when something like hot water, something we take for granted, is not available. Maybe I should create an emergency kit (flashlight, dry shampoo, baby wipes, A&D…). I wonder how the dry shampoo would work on my hair though.

I can totally feel your pain with no hot water. A few years ago, Florida was hit with a major hurricane and we were without power for 2 and 1/2 weeks, meaning no hot water, stove, nothing because everything was electric. Soo not fun! I’m also a big fan of baby wipes. I get the unscented ones as a back up when I run out of makeup wipes. The A&D is brilliant! My skin is super sensitive so that would be perfect for me.

I missed your vlogs girl! Great seeing (and hearing!) you!

That was the best 7 fashion/beauty minutes of my day today. Great vlog Vahni! Love your nails and your lips and I envy you that hair! Mine is all crazy from recent humidity. Yours is just beautiful!
We went 11 days with no power, no hot water after Hurricane Isabel and I thought I would go insane! I was going to the gym to take showers and get ready for work instead of actually working out!! It was hotter than the hinges hell in my house too. So hot that the cold showers actually were a relief!
Your tips from this video would have been such a help to me then!
Hope everything is repaired/replaced for you now!

Oh, thank you for your totally sweet comment, honey! Made my day. You’re a doll.

Definitely try the dry shampoo. It is a super product! Back in the day, my mom used to put baby powder in her clients’ hair to get the same effect. This is a whole lot easier!

Are YOU FREAKIN’ SERIOUS???????????!!!!!!!! A MONTH of no hot water?! Gah. That would never fly here unless there was a natural disaster or something. People would be ringing the news channels to squawk after a week. So sorry!

The Argan oli really is lovely for the skin and hair. Do try. Thanks for commenting, my dear!

Recently, when the temperature here reached -12C, the Better Half and his friend decided they could install a radiator in our sous-sol. Yup, they could install it but not without creating a HUGE leak! We were consequently without hot water and heating for 5 days!!! Oh la, la! Poor Sir Alfred didn’t know what to do with himself. We had this titchy little blow heater that he had his nose glued to the whole time. It was not good. BUT I have to confess, I did go take showers at my friend’s house. I know, what a wimp ;)

How did I not know that about A&D/ We bought that stuff in bulk for the dude. Ha! Did you get that Le Metier eyeliner in your #BloggerBrilliance swag? I have like three of them and have yet to figure out how to apply it…I’m hopeless. Haha!

Oh yeah, the A&D is a miracle! I literally use it almost every day.

And YES! That must be where I got the Le Metier eyeliner…the #BloggerBrilliance swag! Here’s a tip…if you want to do the winged liner, start at the outside and draw inward. I always need a few Q-Tips to correct the lines, but since that liner is like a felt-tip pen it’s a lot easier!

Hope you are well!

I have to tell you – I was actually searching for a certain pair of earrings called Escapade that I THINK Stella & Dot put out. Your blog came up! So I could not resist watching your vlog. I used to blog but I am involved in Stella & Dot now and it’s all I can do to keep up with where the business is taking me. You did a beautiful job choosing the Indira Necklace! I of course loved your bangles too. :)

I live in the deep south and I have very light, fine blonde hair. No way could I go even two days without washing!! The dry shampoo is an absolute miracle. I remember it being around in the 70′s when I was a kid. It was basically cornstarch and baby powder at that point – wonder what’s in it now?

Anyway I wanted to thank you for your beautiful vlog. Keep it up! You have a new subscriber!

Hi Elizabeth!

OMG, thank you so much for the super sweet comment! I actually am able to sell S&D, but really joined for my own selfish purposes :) . So glad to hear it’s taking off for you! I have to admit that I was nonplussed in the beginning, but once I saw the pieces in person, I was sooooooo sold. Amazing quality and just stunning designs, from people with REAL design chops (um, IPPOLITA!). I wear Indira more than I ever expected, and just today wore Pegasus and you know what? (Of course you know this…) I felt like a gazillion bucks!

Thanks so much for watching the vlog and taking the time to comment, and for your support. Very appreciated. And especially love you’re a southern girl like me. Love the south. It’s the bestest!

the la roche posay tourmaline cleanser is water-optional, and a it’s a fantastic cleanser/makeup remover. Because my skin is really dry (and water can actually be more drying), I often don’t bother rinsing it off.

But I don’t think I could go three days without hot water!
