Worker V: 2.6 Plastic Fantastic

Oh, hey! It’s me again!

Worker V has been a busy girl, but you know what gets me through the day, the traffic, the travel, the deadlines, and the endless fatigue? When I look in the mirror and a quirky and unexpected accessory—like this plastic necklace I bought in Oz—winks back at me. Even if I’m pretending it’s Marni in my head (and it ain’t), it puts a smile on my face.

I’ll admit that in my businessy busyness, I’ve been super slack about dragging the Canon out for some shots. But one morning before I dashed off to work, this glorious sun beckoned to me from the backyard, and it did not disappoint. The flare and my sunbeam spear are totally au naturale. It’s not a whip, Antoine, but I think it will do…

You can see a hint of my mani in the shot above, but it was so fun, I had to include a close-up. I was inspired by Kristina’s Half Moon Mani Tutorial, which makes creating fancy schmancy nails a cinch. I did Essie Red Nouveau over Essie Shifting Power…

Have you ever tried a DIY half-moon manicure?

  1. Looking HOT Vahni! The luminous spear is out of this world. And I have always wanted to have a half-moon manicure, always. Soo gonna try one this weekend. C.xxx

  2. That bit of light is amazing, I can’t belive it’s natural! My nails are fially long enough for painting again, so i may just try this tutorial. I can have pretty nails for Christmas hopefully, I love the necklace by the way!

    Happy Christmas to you!

  3. Hey V!!! We missed you and your fur vests. hehe! I love the color of this one. So pretty! Love that mani, too.

I totally know what you mean about the busy-ness of the season. Sheesh! I haven’t taken a single picture all week. Such is life…

  4. Ha! Your sunshine spear is amazing. And so is that necklace! Love the look. Half-moon manis are my favorite, and so easy to do. It makes me feel like I’ve added a teensy bit of Dita von Teese to my look.

  5. WOow so maybe not a concrete whip BUT above all a metaphorical ( § so delightfully surreal) gift from the sun, likely to honor your “GLAMazonittude” V (“Wink from an Expert ès Sexy / Glam forecasts”) !!! This mesmerizing scenery certainly was dedicated to be immortalized , AND I can’t help BUT vote FOR this cocktail jet black mane § bloody lipstick I (shyly) must add Dear …

  6. I didn’t notice the plastic bauble. I am to mesmerized by your sheer and entire fabulousness- and that signature fuzzy vest of yours to see it. I do love that mani- gold and red are seasonal spicy goodness. Happy Holidays, dear you!

  7. Such a lovely necklace Vahni; it’s definitely smile inducing! The sun is shining beautifully, and I am glad it beckoned you out to share with us again. I haven’t tried to do the half moon mani once, and it was an epic fail. I think I may try it again soon though :-).

  8. I’ve done a half moon with just red and loved it but I notice that my nails are weaker with color polish even over a clear nail hardener and they’re super strong with just the clear polish on. So I haven’t done this in a while but it sure is pretty! 🙂

  9. GIRRLLLL…that necklace is amazing…Marni or NOT, it is such a fun statement piece! Love it!
And you know I love that furry furry vest…so chic.
    The photos are gorgeous:)

  10. I love how the photo turned out with the lens flare and the sun shining through the trees. The manicure you did is kind of like those nail rocks foils that I;ve seen cropping in up people’s glossy boxes. They look great.

  11. I’m barely skilled at painting one tone on my nails, let alone two of them, so I’ll save that for the professionals. Speaking of, though, I want to do a tri-tone French tip: Orange tip, light blue base, navy blue accent. It’s for a summery outfit/tribute to Gulf Oil. It’ll be awesome!

And speaking of awesome… I love your magic light wand! 😀 Your vest and necklace are pretty cool, too.

  12. Hey Vahni! I love these pictures – that’s beautiful how the sun did that in the 2nd one. We miss you. I was glad to see an update on your blog. It’s so hard to find the time to keep up with my own, but the motivation you instilled hasn’t gone away yet!

I wish I could get an awesome manicure like that. Playing piano keeps me from letting my nails grow past the skin on my fingertips. Any manicure ideas for girls like me who keep their nails short and stubby?

(BTW is that a plugin that lets people add their twitter account in your comments? Which one is it, if you don’t mind me asking?)

    1. Hey, Selwa, thanks doll! So glad to hear the motivation continues. May it do so well into 2012 and beyond!

RE: the manicure…short and polished in a pale pink or nude works. And you can still throw some glitter on top! Go for it!

And that is a plugin I’m using…I think it’s Twitterlink Comments. I’ve got a few in there, but I think that’s it. If not, let me know and I can double check.

  13. I’ve been missing you V. I haven’t tried Kristina’s tutorial yet…but its going to involve swipeing those paper protector thingys (I believe that is the technical term) from my mother’s home office. Since they aren’t anywhere in my home…and I can’t justify buying them for a mani. Anyway yours looks fab!

  14. Hi V! Glad you’re back! Love the outfit! The vest is amazing and I am and have been for a while IN LOVE w/ your Gucci boots! 🙂 The half moon manicure is awesome. Think I’ll have to try it out! 🙂

  15. Love the necklace and the nails!! I didn’t inherit the polish your nail gene. Matter of fact, my only success thus far with nails (self or professional) was this summer when I tried the soak off nail polish. Blessings to all of you that have the skills for DIY projects like this.

  16. Always good to see you in a wee bit of fur. That necklace is gorge, love the simplicity… great shot, looks like a riding crop!
Love the half moon look and the dual colours you can play with.

Lady, sending you early Christmas wishes and sparkles! I’ll be working through the festive days! Hope Santa’s gonna spoil you rotten!

  17. So pretty! Thrilled you took a post (gorgeous sun!) and adoring those nails. I really need to work on more of these fashion and jewelry DIYs I keep reading about.

  18. Vahni, what more can I say?? I am DYING over this necklace with the vest!! Where do you find ‘Witchery’ pieces? I don’t think I’ve heard of that brand before… I SO envy your wardrobe!! Clothing swap someday?? haha. Also, that manicure is really cool. I’ve seen people do it some other ways but it never looked this good!

  19. I LOVE the necklace and your vest!!! Still on the hunt for a good faux fur vest myself, and the half moon manicure is one of my all time favorites! Just wish I had extra time to do it more often 🙂

  20. Hello – I discovered your blog thanks to Miss Papelicos – very interesting. Love your outfits & long hair – I also have long hair – do you have any posts about hairstyle ideas on the blog?

  21. Miss you, V! My fault entirely as I haven’t been good with bloggage recently.
That’s a fab necklace and love the scarf!
Hope you have a wonderful Christmas and best wishes for 2012!

  22. I love the lighting in your photos. What perfect happenstance to have the “light saber” in your hand. I have not yet tried the half-moon mani but your photos sure make it a temptation! Great top too!
    Happy New Year!

  23. So many comments, thank you all! I’m about halfway through getting out to see all of you. I promise to finish before the end of the year!

  24. Omg, it looks like you’re holding a light saber in the 2nd pic (woah that sounded super nerdy, but I’ve just been watching the Big Bang Theory…hahaha). The necklace totally reminded me of Marni also- funny you say that. I’ve been oogling their pieces on Gilt, but they’re still a bit too expensive.
