WVW: Le Kiss Kiss*

As soon as I spotted this tee, I immediately thought of Francesca of Le Kiss Kiss, who is so sweet, by the way (and was also photographed by G&G homie Lee Oliveira after we all had breakfast in NYC). Francesca, this one’s for you, babe! I told you this shirt had your name written all over it!

I am actually not a fan of t-shirts. I have very few, because I feel like a big slob in them. I do like Kiss, but spent the majority of my childhood terrified of Gene Simmons after Zachary Taylor scared the living daylights out of me with his Kiss mask in the first grade. (How in the hell did he come to know Kiss in the first grade? I could barely dress myself, much less have a taste for some very adult rock-n-roll. But anyway.)

Despite the fact that this tee is a bit slovenly, I couldn’t resist the clever play on the Kiss logo. I will admit it that it isn’t very flattering—this is definitely a case where the photos don’t really capture a look that was kind of cool in real life. Or at least I thought it was cool. Apparently my inner rock star was dying to come out.

Then again, how cool could I possibly be spending half my life terrified of a man in heavy makeup and 10-inch platforms?

  1. I am a very big fan of the rock t-shirt, and I like the one you’re wearing! You are wearing it with exactly the accessories that I would, so I think you look comfy and rocker chic all in one 🙂

    1. Thanks, Courtney. It’s a bit wavy, yes. If I get out of the shower and don’t comb it, it dries wavy. If I do, it dries straighter. It’s kind of just wavy enough that I can add some product and change it up a bit. In these photos, it was actually still a little wet.

Ooh, A Year Without Facebook…gotta read that now! I did that once and LOVED it!

  2. Really digging the photo quality of these pics…totally helps transcend the 70’s rocker vibe into a modern girl’s love for vintage tees…or at least that’s what I got from it ;D Love the jewelry…always my FAVE from you!

    Peace. Love. LOL!

    1. Thanks, Julie! I actually did something a little different with these shots…glad you noticed and liked!

  3. Nice to see you in a tee. The bracelets take it from sloppy tee to rocker-cool. I gotta get me some power bracelets. 🙂

  4. You rock a tee, V! (I love how that rhymes.) I’m a huge failure when it comes to those, I just feel like I’m fourteen again. I got what I thought was an awesome one last year, it’s black with that look of all these necklaces silk-screened onto it, and it had a chain and such. I thought it was awesome, but when I was wearing it out and caught myself in a mirror the whole high/edgy glamour thing eluded me. I looked like I should be standing in line at a Nickelback concert. It was bad news. You, on the other hand, are making the band tee look totally chic. Little jealous over here!

  5. Teehee – loved that Kiss story – I love how you are wearing your rock n roll tee shirt – I know what you mean about the slovenly thing though – I love tees for comfort but you do have to put the effort into elevating your outfit out of mooching around gear to qualify as laid back chic. But you’ve cracked that balance perfectly with the tough accessories and heels.

  6. Hey now first of all i wanna tell you one thing that you should have a large collection of t-shirts b’coz they just look fabulous on you….specially with that kind of exotic quotes…..yeah i can see your inner rock star coming out clearly….
Your t-shirt,accessories,nail paint, footwear, hand bag and even the hair style matches all together perfectly. This appearance suits you a lot….”A PERFECT ROCK STAR IMAGE” ……….

  7. Oh, you do look cool, very cool!

Oversized cropped tees are a whole different thing from just plain tees, I think. Not necessarily flattering but very interesting. I love wearing them when I had enough of “flattering my curves” or something like that. 🙂

  8. I feel the same way about t-shirts, for some reason I rarely wear them. I just feel a lot more put together in a dress. But I really like the way you styled that shirt, I’m just not sure I could ever pull it off…

  9. I don’t have any boy band t shirt but I must say.. after seing you wearing.. I want a Kiss tee too.
You did a great mix between edgy and glam. Great combination!!
You look good in anything.. even in a potato sack. hahaha

  10. Haha! Glad you overcame your Gene Simmons terror to rock this look. My brother and some neighborhood boys used to pretend to be Kiss in the backyard, even putting on some pyrotechnics of sorts by firing a cap gun to make puffs of smoke. They were little, too–my brother was probably five years old, and even the bigger boys couldn’t have been more than eight or nine. 🙂

  11. Love it! It looks like a fun look for you 🙂 I am a shoe addict, so of course that’s the first thing I was looking for, and those are so great!

    …Ps… Avril Levigne made jewlery?!?!

  12. Haha, great look! I’m not a t-shirt fan, myself, but sometimes you can pull of really great looks with them. I do really like this T, though. The shape is really nice, and I really love your shoes and clutch. Which color did you buy your clutch in, by the way? I’m looking to get one myself, but they always have a completely different range of colors online.

Also! Your post that I think was entitled “The 12 Days of Blogging” (something like that…) influenced me to move to WordPress. I finally finished the switch over the weekend and launched my blog on Sunday. Thank you for all the resources V! You’re such a talented blogger– glad to have your posts to read 🙂

    1. Hi Melanie, thank you! Funny you would ask about the clutches. I actually ordered them online and this one was NOT the color I ordered…they sent me the wrong one! I suspect that’s because the one I wanted ended up selling out. I almost returned this one, then realized it matches a few brick red items in my closet perfectly, so I kept it. Figured it was mean to be!

So glad my 12 Days post inspired your move to WP! Fantastic! You won’t regret it. In fact, I’m going to check you out right now and see!

  13. Loving the T-Shirt on you V! A different look for you but awesome all the same! 🙂

I have waaay too many T-shirts it’s insane! Those are my momentos of my tonboy days! LOL

  14. Such a rockin’ look! Have you seen Curly in the City’s Etsy shop? Her clutches are similar to yours and come in fun colors with contrasting zippers!

  15. Honey, you look good in anything — even tee shirts! I love the whole outfit, from the shoes to the clutch to the nails.

When you talked about your first-grade friend with a Kiss mask, I immediately thought of ‘Role Models.’ HA!

  16. I never thought of you as a rocker, but, well…we a re one and a million. Fabulous as ever, my dear friend.

  17. Vahni, this is hot. The headbanger in me (and yes there is one, I have won head banging to hard core rock competitions) just want to come over and give you a big smooch! Ok, who am I kidding, I always want to do that.

I love the finish of your pictures, noticed it immediately. I love that add dimentions to your posts in this way, and added feel to go with the pics and your words. That is also blogging with intent, and let me tell you, it works.

Your blog looks really good, great how you`ve intergrated the ads. And you know how I feel about the header. Smelling salts, please! Hugs to you my friend.

Jesus alive, 3 MONTHS TO GO!

  18. Love this look Vahni!, I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect rock tshirt, that I can customize.( Ive been holding out for a guns and roses one, so far no such luck!) I used to live in tshirts when I was a kid, I had so many band tshirts back then , Im sorry i got rid of them all now! stupid stupid stupid.

  19. I like seeing you in a very casual look and even in casualwear the look is very polished and i love this look as i love rock tees 🙂

  20. I love this outfit! It is the very last thing I expected to see you wearing when I clicked the link in my reader, but it was a nice surprise! I like Kiss, saw them at a festival 2 years ago, so good choice in tee! I completely understand how t-shirts can make you feel sloppy, because they can make you look sloppy! but I find it all depends on the material. Linen blend and rayon tees seem fancier than cotton ones, but maybe thats me trying to justify wearing them so often!

  21. I tend to stay away from tees as well. Except for basic white fitted ones (the ones from Club Monaco are to die for). You rock this tee though, no pun intended, and I will have to reassess my casual tee preferences. Your hair does look gorgeous too! Oh how I wish mine looked even some what presentable after air drying…..

  22. I’m loving the mix here, especially the cuffs – but i’ve always loved them!
    – Agree with Steph – you can chuck anything on and still look gorgeous!

  23. To not own many Tees, you look amazing, I always adore the tone in your photos V!
Those cuff/bracelets are so incredible as well … I love them! 🙂

  24. I’m seriously impressed with this outfit. It’s totally chic and casual, not at all slovenly. I’m so gonna try this.

  25. Kinda suspected there may be a rockstar hidden in there 🙂 Love seeing your hair like this. Sadly mine has a funny wave to it when it dries naturally. Not cool!

  26. Thank you lovelies! My diversion from Vahni-ville apparently went over, daggy tee and all. Yay! I’ll be out to see you all very soon!

  27. I totally think of you as Rocker Chic all the time! You always have such great “edge” to your style. I really like this tee with the casual swingy skirt and heels. Those cuff bracelets are fantastic!! I love the gold studded one – oh heck I really love ALL of your jewelry. I keep telling myself “must get more wide cuff bracelets” and now I think you pushed me to the point of no return!!
    Love it!!

  28. Didn’t Kiss have some goofy movie and a bunch of action figures? That’s probably how your friend knew about them. It had nothing to do with the music – it was the product.

Love your t-shirt. Very fun and very rock & roll.

  29. 😉 I like this t-shirt a lot! I see what you mean, I have plenty of t-shirts and feel like a slob in a lot of them. I have that many because they are so easy to buy, you don’t even have to try them on, really, so lazy-ass moi ends up grabbing them quite easily off the store rails, then gets home to wear the shapeless garment and feel like a sac of potatoes 😉

    1. Awwww! OK, I have an idea. Tank tops are easy to buy too, without trying them on. How about a grabbing a bunch of them! They’re pretty versatile too…and sexy!
