Video Review: Maybelline Color Sensational Clear Lipliner

I’ve been on quite a little beauty product kick lately, haven’t I? Please indulge me a little longer, lovelies. I promise to return to OOTD posts very soon.

In Lipstick: Faves, Tips, and Tricks, I shared my love of Maybelline’s Color Sensational Lipcolor in Are You Red-dyβ€”a luxurious, long-lasting red that finally put my hunt for the perfect red lippie to an end. I also confessed that although red lipstick tends to bleed more than any other color, I do not use lipliner with it because I’ve never liked the way liners change the color of my lipstick.

Well. Thanks to star commenters Ashe of Dramatis Personae, and Courtney of Those Graces, I learned of a lipliner that could potentially solve the issue of “bleeding” lipstick, with no change to lipstick color whatsoever. Yes, darlings it is true. Finally, in the 21st century, our lipstick prayers have been answered with the invention of clear lipliner.

This is my review/demo of the one-and-only lipliner you’ll ever need: Maybelline Color Sensational Lipliner in #10 Clear. I just streamlined your cosmetics drawerβ€”no need for five different shades of lipliner anymore!

You can also watch on YouTube if you have issues watching here!

NOTE: This is not a sponsored post. The products used in my review were personally purchased by me and I was not compensated by Maybelline in any manner for this post.

PS: I shot, edited, and uploaded this video all via my iPad 2 (and iMovie). How freakin’ cool is that?!

  1. Oooh, a drugstore brand too! The only version I know of was a Sephora purchase, and I just couldn’t justify spending $20 on lip liner when I don’t wear lipstick so often….

    1. Yes…so thank you for the tip! I accidentally discovered it after you mentioned it, and I think there are so many of us that are glad it’s low-cost.

  2. Ahhhh! Love that! I’m so worried about bleeding when it comes to darker lipstick, so I think that product is fantastic. SOLD!

    Love the video…great demo V!

  3. This is my first time watching a video of yours. I have no idea what I thought you’d sound like, but it so wasn’t what you sound like! lol You even have a bit of a Southern accent :-).

Anywho, this seems like a great product as I plan to venture in some bold lips this Summer!

    1. Haaaa! Thanks, Rocquelle! Yes, I was raised in the gorgeous southeastern US, so I have a hint of a southern accent.

Go for the bold lips! It’s so much fun!

  4. I have never heard of a clear lipliner! How absolutely brilliant, and I love that it’s Maybelline (translation: fits perfectly into my skimpy make-up budget). I’ll certainly check it out.

P.S. Have you done a post about your hair routine/fave products? You’re rocking some seriously gorgeous locks in that vid!

    1. HAAA! Dang, I forgot about that. But I’m really not that good at it yet. Maybe I should try to do a little iMovie tutorial one day. Hmm.

      xoxo

  5. I always use a lip brush to apply my red lipstick but you’re right – not the most practical for re-applying. I’ve heard people mention clear lipliner for years but after a rave review I need to run out and get one!

  6. I ‘ve heard you before V, but this vlog is truly adorable. I now want to try the clear lip liner & possibly buy a new lipstick… hmmm, I may be switching over from glosses to lipsticks… I wonder if I can buy online as well?
I’m also loving all of these great beauty tips, findings, shares. -xxoo

  7. How exciting! I’m glad the clear lipliner worked for you. I just ran out of mine a few weeks ago and have been on the hunt for a Revlon replacement, but it’s been hard to find one! I don’t personally use Maybelline due to their animal testing status, but, that aside, I don’t doubt that the product is great.

    1. HAAAA! You are one of my very best cheerleaders, babe. Thank you! And you know what? I bet you and I would have a smackin’ good time, even just hanging out in my bathroom!

  8. I’ve had a clear liner for years that I only ever wear with red. Mine isn’t Maybelline but it really is a great product – an essential in every girls’ make-up bag! πŸ™‚ Love seeing you on your VLOG’s as well – so nice to hear you as well as see you!

  9. Loved your video, V! I don’t ever wear lipliner, but I’ll definitely pick this up if I can find it and try it out. It sounds like a great product!

Also, I like the look of bare nails sometimes. I think it’s a refreshing change once in a while, even though I’m addicted to doing my nails! πŸ™‚

    1. Hi Leia, thank you! It is great, it really is.

Bare nails are refreshing sometimes, I agree. I supposed I like them polished not just for the color, but for the extra protection polish provides against tears and breaks. Funny, while I waited for the video to upload to YouTube, I got them all polished again!

  10. Awesome! I’ve known clear lipliner existed, but I could never find an affordable brand. I’m so excited to know this is inexpensive and works great! I might have to stop at the drug store on the way to work and look for some. πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks Stacy! Apparently it’s been out for longer than I realized. But this one is great, even for a drugstore brand!

  11. LOVE IT!! I’m going to out and get some because lip liner is something I never had any luck with because I’m always trying to match the color with the lipstick and it tends to be very drying. But a clear lip liner?? That’s perfect! I also have the clear mascara that Courtney put me on too awhile ago that I have to try!

    Thanks for the vlog V!

    1. Awesome! And you WILL love it! It really is very good. Not dry like so many liners. Let me know what you think, OK?

  12. And just like that… SOLD!

I usually try to use a nude lip liner that is a similar color to my lips to achieve the “naked” effect, but this – this is GENIUS!

Thanks to Ashe and Courtney for recommending it, and thanks to YOU for putting together the awesome vlog.

Also – I want to steal your ring. πŸ™‚

  13. I loved your vlog- so cool to get to hear your voice! =) And this product sounds fantastic and bonus that it’s affordable- I must have it! πŸ˜€

  14. Wow! Vahni – you are so beautiful! I am always amazed when I see you in motion! Love your videos and what a great product! I too hate dry lipliners and long-wearing lipsticks always seem to be really dry too. Your nails looked fine – like someone mentioned before> it could have been a French. We viewers wouldn’t have known the difference!
Thanks for taking us into your bedroom and kinda behind the scenes! You did a great job!

    1. Thank you Yvonne…you’re so sweet! I still find it so surprising when people like my videos. I literally turn the camera on and just go. It’s nice to know you all appreciate them and me!

  15. You are so adorable. Love the video. Was iMovie on the iPad easy to use? Now you’re gonna make want an iPad 2! πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks, sugar! iMovie is fairly easy. It has its limitations, but it is far better than anything else I’ve used in terms of producing short vids quickly and easily. It takes a long, long time to upload to YouTube from the iPad, though. Next time I may try to get it onto my PC and then upload.

  16. Love this post! I am going to try that clear lip liner for sure. Also, it was nice to see you and hear you. I feel like I just met you in person. Hope to meet up in September!

  17. Awesome!!! I agree with you about how liner changes the color of the lip color. I am definitely going to give this liner a try!

p.s. bare nails, bare lips… honey, you are just stunning! πŸ™‚

  18. OMIGOSH!!! THIS IS AMAZING!!! And it’s drugstore!? Ah!!! So funny when you said in your vlog “Yes, it is true” in my head I was literally saying this can not be true. Going to CVS immediately!!!

P.S. you are awesome on video and wow ipad!

    1. Thanks, Jamillah! Yes, it’s drugstore! I’m not a snob…I’m totally equal opportunity, for anything. No one could part me from my L’oreal mascara, either!

  19. I love Maybelline Lip glosses since they’re so reasonably priced and yummy so I’m thrilled to add to my stock from this brand. I tried my friend’s iPad a while ago and have to say it was addictive; the apps, the size and the clarity was superb. And now I see it takes great movie clips too. I’ve started working on the advice you gave me and the left-justified rule does make a BIG difference! Thanks Vahni and have a great weekend.

    1. Thanks, Kavery! The iPad isn’t perfect, but it is a fab complement to my workhorse laptop, I must say. Popping over to see your changes now…

  20. Love this clear liner idea!!! I sported hot pink lips without a liner one day and I wasn’t even a hot mess, I was just a plain old MESS! Thanks for sharing!

  21. I have an iPad 1, bought it the day it came out. It goes everywhere with me. I also own two iPhones. Do I need two iPhones? No. Do I have two iPhones anyway? Yes.

Sorry, I have nothing useful to add on the subject of lipliner.

    1. You may not have anything to add to the lipliner convo, but I loved your comment anyway, Kionon. I get the Apple love, believe me I do. I have had three iPods, two iPhones, and now the iPad. I pass my older technology on to Hubby so I feel a little less a guilty about being a greedy consumer.

      1. I tend to sell my old iStuff on ebay. I take really good care of my stuff, so I get a pretty high return. Elsewise, I do what you do- pass them onto the parents. My parents still have dumbphones, so I am considering passing the iPhone 3G onto my mother or father, so they can get with the times.

My father bought an iPad 1 a few months ago, and I was like…. SAY WUT. Not common for my “we only use microsoft office” parents.

    1. Aw, thanks, Bonnie! You and Kionon above…we all love our Apple products! I’m actually a PC girl, but all my mobile devices are Apple. I do wish I could have the full-blown iMovie on my PC though. All the vlogs others do that I love are iMovie productions.

  22. I will definitely remember this if I ever wear lipstick (it’s amazing if I actually make the effort for gloss, so we’ll see…). Perfect for people who are new to lipstick wearing! Thanks for the video.. you’re so nice to have made it (even without your nails done, which looked fabulous anyway!!) xx

  23. Why did it take me so long to watch this video? I saw you had posted it on twitter! LOVE it! How cool is that? Beauty guru’s are going to be all over that one.

That red looks awesome on you btw.

  24. Thank you all so very much for your comments. Ladies, those of you who were intrigued, please let me know what you think if you end up trying this product!

  25. I bought the clear liner yesterday, so I’m testing it out today with a new red lipstick. I’m so not used to wearing red lipstick, so I feel a lil naughty. πŸ˜‰

  26. I purchased clear lip liner from Sephora years and years ago but didn’t really like it. I haven’t tried the Color Sensational lip liners because I like the kind that twist up (Revlon’s liner is really nice that way.) but I do like the Color Sensational lipsticks to I think I’ll have to try that liner!

    Love,
    Heather

  27. Great video. I really like using the lip liner over all of my lips instead of lining because if my lipstick comes off there’s no line around my lips because all of my lips are covered. My go to lip passions have been from Bare Escentuals. Love Buxom and lip naturals.

  28. This is great! I often stray away from a red lip just because I have to apply liner, this is very encouraging! I definitely will give this a try, love the video btw it wasn’t horrific!
