Recently, Casee Marie of The Girl Who Stole the Eiffel Tower, left me the following comment, and, natch, I had to share:

“Can I tell you a little story?

When I was out visiting my sister in Michigan recently I picked up this gorgeous faux fur vest when we were on one of our ritualistic shopping sprees; I don’t know that I’ve ever entertained a faux fur vest before in my entire life, but when I saw it I thought, Vahni and Kristy Eléna would totally be rocking this. Maybe I should be adventurous. So I snatched it up and wore it the next day with damask-print jeggings (really!) and snow boots (because I had to be realistic—it’s Michigan, after all). The boots ended up working better than my leather ones, go figure.

But anyway, I was scurrying through Target for some quick things and…I actually turned a few heads! I thought, This is what Vahni must feel like every day! In a word, it was awesome. It’s become my ultimate feel-good outfit and I have you and Kristy to thank for the inspiration.”

For the deets on my outfit (if you missed it before), see WVW: The Invisible Wedge* + Evolving Influence!

Casee, thank you for sharing your story! I love it!

Yes, I must admit that is what it feels like to be me. But that feeling isn’t exclusive to me. As Casee experienced, sometimes all it takes to put a little pep in your step is to try something new—and totally, unabashedly (and with a big ol’ smile on your face)—be a huge believer in you. In Target, and everywhere.

If any of you have a VG experience, please let me know!

*VG = Very Good experience emulating Vahni G. And, VG-approved. Of course.

Sharing is good

I think you’ve started a trend, V! Shocking the poor people of Target with fashion. There are going to be so many traffic jams in the aisles because people just stop and stare at stylish outfits, the employees aren’t going to know what to do with themselves. I wonder if their going to have to put that in the employee handbook under “The Vahni Effect.” Lucky there aren’t giant can displays at Target, else they’d be knocked over in a second by some gawking stranger.

Awh that’s a beautiful story. One of my favorite things about personal style is that it inspires others to experiment with their own style. It gives people confidence to wear what they want and be who they are. You always own it V and it comes to no surprise to me that you’re helping others own it too! xoxo

OMG! This is amazing. I even kind of got close to nailing your look, I just need the BCBG leggings/heels to complete the overall badassery. (And having your height, hair and je ne sais quoi wouldn’t hurt the process, mind.) One of my favorite things about reading personal style blogs is that they help to sort of reacquaint me with my own personal taste. This is a perfect example – I saw your look just once and obviously it made an impact. When you really look at elements from different personal style bloggers and you grow attached to key pieces, that’s where it becomes really fun to draw inspiration. When I first started blogging I didn’t know where I fell in the style world and I thought I had to sort of pick an identity – indie/vintage, bohemian, sleek and chic, etc. – but the more I saw of other bloggers the more I realized it’s about liking what you like and implementing it. When I saw the fur vest I thought, “This is so Vahni, so Kristy, I love it.” And then I put it back. And I thought…why put it back? I love it, so why put it back? Because up until now I had put some kind of faux fur vest ban on my life, as if I feared looking like an…awkward bear or something. So I picked it back up and I’m so glad I did!

Thank you so much for sharing this, V, I’m really beyond words (well, contrary to the above, but you know…).

Ah!!!! This is such a cool post Vahni!! Thank you so much for sharing it. It’s a great example of how influential fashion bloggers really can be, and how much we help each other step out and explore our personal style further. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it over and over again… personal style blogging helps people feel more confident in their style choices. What a great and perfect example. I have to go tweet this using the #FTFCommunity hashtag so as many people as possible see it.

Also, I adore Casee and she looks awesome in the outfit!!

I ADORE this post. What is there not to love?

Two fashion bloggers I adore + some heavily influenced fashion choices = perfection.

You each have your own unique sense of style and I love how this post shows that, while heavily influenced by you, she still managed to make the look her own. Inspiration at its best.

In my dream world, you would be my personal stylist – just for a day. Because that would be fabulous.
