Friend Friday: G&G in 2011

Tomorrow is the start of a brand new year. I love New Year’s Day. Some people look at it as just another day, but I like to think of it as yet another chance to grow, change, inspire, be inspired, explore, embrace, and be a better you. I’m not one to set resolutions, but I always start the year with some goals in mind.

That’s this week’s Friend Friday* topic—blog plans for 2011…

What’s the one thing you vow to learn or do in 2011 to improve your blog?

I’m going to improve my video editing skills and do some blog revamp work. It’s time.

What did you learn about blogging in 2010 that you plan to put into practice next year?

I learned the art of commenting. It’s been an amazing year getting to know all of you through commenting. In 2011, I’m going to keep at it, though I find myself at a crossroads: I’m no longer able to respond to everyone on an individual level. I’ve just run out of time! I’m grateful to have so many new blog friends, but the down side of that is I’m only one person, and my full-time job is not blogging. So even if I can’t respond to all of your lovely love notes to me on G&G, I will definitely hit you all back on your blogs as much as I can.

Do you have any high-level goals for your blog in the coming year? Monetization? More comments? More connections with other bloggers? A new template?

Monetization may be on the horizon, not because I’m pursuing it, but because I’m getting a lot of inquiries. I think eventually, I will be able to ink the right deal and make a little bit of money. I’d LOVE to be able to blog for a living, but if I could just cover the cost of my blog, that would be nice too.

I think you can also definitely expect to see a new look for G&G in 2011. As I wrote above, it’s time. But I need to bring in the big guns to translate my vision into a killer template. And that also takes big money. So we shall see. It’s one of my goals, for sure.

If you could collaborate with one other blogger within your sphere of influence in 2011, who would you like to collaborate with, and what would you like to collaborate on?

Man, I wrote this question, and now I’m thinking, only one?! So in classic fashion, I’m going to color outside the lines. Not sure what we’d work on together, but I would love to collaborate with these deliciously creative people:

@kristyelena |  @BeautifullyInv |  @ashemischief |  @leeoliveira82

What do you plan to do to support other bloggers next year?

Just more of what I’m doing this year: tweets, comments, meetups, shout-outs. I love the non-judgmental, open-door feeling of our Style Nation. I think we all have something to learn and to teach to others. Blogging is just another medium for human connection. It may be virtual, but it is no less meaningful.

  2. I can’t wait to see the way the blogging world transforms in 2011! I think this year has been an amazing year for bloggers and has really put us on the map. Oh, and a new template sounds amazing, V; hope you manage to get that sorted out at a not-too-extortionate price! Happy new year, gorgeous 🙂

  3. Definitely agree with your first little paragraph! Can’t wait to see what you bring to 2011! You are the glue that holds this circle of bloggers together and I feel very fortunate to know you, even if only virtually at the moment!
    HAppy New Year V!<3

I am very excited to see what GG will be in 2011, it is like another Christmas – but the Bloggers’s Christmas !

    xoxo

PS : I LOVE the cube!

Yes! Someone commented on my survey that I don’t respond to comments– and for a long while, I just didn’t have time. Even now it often takes me weeks to get around to it. It’s not that I don’t want to–it’s just on a 60 hour work week, not everything can be the priority. So do what you need to girl.

And craziness– I’d been thinking a lot about working with YOU this upcoming year. Like a lot. O_o (so I know I’m flattered!)

  6. i don’t think your cube was cheesy. i actually think it was really really cool. 🙂 also these were great questions for the last fbff of the year. they really helped me to constructively look back and see what i’ve accomplished this year as well as see where i need to go moving forward.

  7. Hey V ! I hope you have a fabulous NYE tonight with your hubby!!
I have enjoyed talking/commenting/emailing with you so much this year! I appreciate all of your tips and just your general care for other bloggers in general! I must say I got to your blog first every single day and I really look up to it!!

    Thanks again!!

  8. Wow! “V,” Great post and I love the cube! I learned quite a lot this year myself as a newbie blogger, and will be trying very hard to show more of my work, and take time with commenting. I was discouraged at first, because I wasn’t sure if there was a right and wrong way to showcase images/content etc. & also wanted it to be anonymous, but I learned so much from the blogging community this year and I am very excited to see what’s in store for 2011.
G&G is certainly on my must-read blog roll. Thanks for being such an inspiration, and blogging educator! 🙂 -xxoo

  9. Happy New Year Girl!!

I can’t wait to see the new things you have in store for G&G next year! I am soo glad I got a chance to get to know and learn from you! 🙂

btw: I thought the cube was kinda cool!

  10. Thanks for you answers, I feel like I have and will continue to learn so much from you. Yay! And seriously, you get double-points for throwing in a cheesy cube. What’s life without a little bit of humor?

  11. Good luck with everything you wish to do with the blog and in life! It was great finding your blog this year and I’m so excited to see more from you in the coming year .

  12. this was a really interesting post…a very good, creative idea! i actually just found your blog today because i was reading another blog (seven style notes), and she mentioned your blog. i will definitely be following you in 2011, and you gave me more ideas to revamp my blog! happy new year!!!

  13. hey, i did not think the cube was cheesy at all! i loved it! =P

and you know that i’m dying to collaborate with you as well. curse this distance!

i love your answers to these questions. responding to commenters is a concern of mine as well. i could definitely see how even if blogging becomes a full time job, it would still be difficult sometimes. and responding to people on their blogs is definitely preferred i think. at times i had to opt for that instead of responding to comments on my FTF blog. its so sad though because i get such a thrill out of responding to someone and then seeing they came back and responded again to my response. it’s such a cool feeling.

anyway, i am VERY excited to see what 2011 brings for grit and glamour. thank you so much for being such a huge inspiration during 2010. you’ve taught me so much and have seriously helped me become a conscious and involved blogger. and i appreciate that like you would not believe!

    happy new year!!!

  14. Happy New Year V!! I am so excited to see where you take Grit and Glamour in 2011. You bring such an honesty to your site, that’s my favorite aspect of G&G and so I’m excited to see where you go and how you grow!!

    xo, Ashley

  15. A collab between you and B would be a fashion-blog dream come true. I hope that happens! Your plans for the blog sound terribly exciting as well. Especially the new look, although this one will always be classic G&G to me. I’m always curious about other bloggers’ designs, probably because web design was one of the first things that drew me to the internet when I was about fourteen. I just moved to a self-hosted WordPress and already I’m feeling the benefits from a design standpoint (plus, the theme I found was free – score!).

Anyway. Happy new year, V! I hope you’ve had a lovely holiday weekend and that the coming year brings you all things fabulous!

  16. Great answers! Can’t wait to see some of the changes for next year. It’s always exciting to do a little revamping and I totally agree about how we all have something to teach and learn from each other.

  17. Happy New Year V! I am excited to see you flourish in the new year. You inspire me and I give gratitude for that. My three little words for the new year: GRATITUDE IS ATTITUDE
    xoxo, Mish

  18. Thanks for taking the time to stop by my blog! I think your layout is pretty good as it is (I like the clean feel), but I’m looking forward to seeing what you do with the site/what features you add this year!

  19. You’re a victim of your own success, dear girl! It’s strange to think that most blogs start out as something purely personal, something you do solely for yourself…yet they end up being gateways to an incredible and very active community. It’s been a fantastic year – all the best for this one.

Thanks, too, for stopping by Mrs Bossa Does the Do – Pretty in Pink is a classic (what happened to Molly Ringwald?!)

  20. Ahhh! This was such a fun post. I love your “Eh, I’m just gonna color outside the lines even though I wrote the question…” Hahahaha! I laughed, girl. Too funny. I totally agree that we all have something to learn from each other. Our voices, blogs and content are all so unique, and I love getting a glimpse inside another blogger’s world? It’s sort of magical, like Disneyland or something! Ha! OK, please tell me I am not crazed, because that’s actually how I get–really excited–to look at others’ blogs. OK, I am off on a tangent now, but back to the point! 2011 is going to be a big year, I can absolutely feel it. Keep working hard and doing what you’re doing. We totally love you for it. (And this is not your day job? It should be!…In my humble opinion…Hopefully soon, V!) ;]
    XO,
    Jenna
