My Year in the Blogosphere

What a crazy, exhilarating, exhausting, fantastic year it has been! I kicked off 2010 in Sydney, Australia where I took my first stab at outfit posts, and comments on posts were in the single-digits (if).

Along the way I repatriated, got to know all of you and your blogs, got featured on IFB then became a contributing writer there, learned to use Twitter, improved on my photography and editing skills, started making vlogs, got involved in Friend Friday posts, saw my numbers soar, began to understand the purpose of blogging, was inspired by so many incredibly gifted bloggers, felt my heart soar, and…here I am! At the end, and looking forward to an even more productive 2011. Beaming. Proud. Happy. Because of YOU!

Here are some final G&G 2010 stats to close out a thrilling year…

Other Facts and Horn-Tooting

Y’all know I’m a big fan of tooting your own horn—not for the sake of bragging, of course. Seeing one’s accomplishments in black-and-white  is one of the best ways to stay committed to excellence. As I wrote above, this was a huge year for me! Knowing that all the time I’ve spent typing away has amounted to something…well, it renews my energy and sets the tone of my blog for 2011.

This year, I:

Thank You G&G Supporters

Thank you my devoted, smart, funny, helpful, kind, and superstylish G&G readers. Blogging is gratifying in and of itself, but when you have a network—a STYLE NATION—there to support you (and each other), well, it is absolutely the cherry on the whip cream on my Cold Stone Creamery Peanut Butter Cup Perfection. Or the bleu cheese-stuffed olive in my martini. And that’s sayin’ somethin’.

  1. Well you can add one more to that list since I’m at this very moment in the process of writing up a post on my top five blogs I discovered in 2010! V, your blog is funny, thought-provoking, inspirational and generally kick-ass. Thanks for existing!

  2. V, you totally deserve all this success and I am so happy for you. 🙂 I can’t exactly remember how I came across your blog (most probably thru a link from another blog) and I’ve been a huge fan since then! All the best for 2011, I know this is only the beginning!

  3. Congrats, I’m sure your blog will continue to grow in the next year, you’ve done some amazing things. I found your blog in the last month or two and it’s been a great source of information.

  7. You inspire. I have been an example of what not to do in blogging for most fo the time I’ve been doing this. It’s good to be reminded that some of my favorite bloggers started out the same way and just kept improving. I especially appreciate how generous you are with sharing tips specifically for building a better blog. Have a great 2011.

  8. Wow! You’ve had an amazing year. Your blog is, without a doubt, one of my faves & has inspired me so much towards establishing my own blog. Looking forward to what you have in store for 2011!

RE: Comment tracking. I use a WP plugin called My Top Commentators. It’s very easy to install and enables you to measure comments a number of different ways.

  9. What an amazing year V!! It is truly inspiring. I look forward to being on that list of top commentors in 2011 as well. I’m just catching up on posts after the Christmas rush and wanted to thank you so, so much for including me in your list of More Mosts for most supportive. What an honour!! I was positively beaming when I read it. Thanks V and cheers to a wonderful 2010 and what’s sure to be a sensational 2011!! xx

  10. I am so so happy to have come across your beautiful blog this year. I truly learn something every time I visit. Thanks for giving us such fabulous material to pour over!

  11. All of what you have written are the reasons I look up to you and your blog. As a newcomer to the blogosphere, I feel so fortunate to have found such great examples to inspire me and act as “mentors” – even if you don’t know I consider you a mentor. Your tips on building a better blog and taking photos and tweeking photos are so helpful. The color saturation you mentioned in one of your posts – why didn’t I think of that? Thank goodness you did and shared with the rest of us numbskulls 🙂
Congratulations on your impressive successes over the last year. I am sure 2011 will be even better for you.
    Keep being you Vahni!!

  12. I love to read when someone is achieving something important and they are proud of it: it always makes me feel that efforts never go wasted and that passion and hard work can bring you wherever you want. This is the kind of hope I like to feel and the kind of proud, happy words I want to read. You really made me joyful with this post because you I can feel how happy YOU are through your words.

I’m very happy for you V. I just discovered you so I read just a few posts for now but I think you deserve everything.

And I’m sure 2011 will be even better, because you’ll keep doing this great job you’re doing now, and I’m looking forward to it.

She sent me to your blog this past fall to learn how to make my blog a nicer place to visit and I am forever thankful for that ! Being a 46 yr old blogger who blared music at my followers didn’t stop Bella from taking a chance on me. I hope to learn much more this year, and will be following your great style as well as your terrific advise!

  18. V! What an amazing job you did this year!! (And honey, my mama always told me no one is going to toot your horn except you, so I applaud you for this post. I love to see other excellent bloggers and their accomplishments, as it makes me want to strive to be a better blogger too). And I can really see that you pour your heart and soul into G&G, and I just adore that. And you! Keep being your fabulous self, my friend. You will soar higher than you’ve ever dreamed. You have “it” as a blogger, sister. I am glad I can follow along!

  19. What a brilliant year you’ve had girly and no-one deserves it more than you. The lookbook/chicotopia post is the one which really made me aware of your blog. btw how do I subscribe by email?

    1. Hi sweetie…you know how I said I’m constantly learning? Well, here is another situation where I learned something new. After all these years blogging, I didn’t realize that I hadn’t enabled email subscriptions automatically through Feedburner. I’m glad you asked about this. I’ve corrected it!

If you click the RSS button at the top right of my blog, or “RSS” in my post footer:

you’ll go here: . There is now an option within Feedburner to subscribe by email.

Also, if you click “EMAIL” in my post footer, you go straight to a subscription form:

Thanks for the heads-up, and hope this helps!

  20. V,
I always love stopping by here and reading your beautifully written posts. It is an inspiration not only to me, but I am sure many others as well.

  21. And what thrills me, gives me goosebumps is the gut call that you’re just getting started. And you’re taking us with.

Am so proud to see my name in the list of your top commenters. Surprised but not surprised to see so many of my esteemed colleagues also in the list; in fact there is only 1 that I am not aware of, or follow or email or tweet to. Which I plan to remedy immediately by visiting her blog.

THANK YOU Vahni for making my blogger year of 2010 so stellar. I had no idea that “meeting” you via your first article for IFB (the photograph tutorial) would set a new course for my blogging life, helping me clean up my blog, creating a place for like minded bloggers to coalesce and form the bones of the community I rely on today. Thank you for your sharing generous spirit, and your kind, kind acknowledgments. Thank you for being an glorious goddess who eats proper English for breakfast, and turns out brilliant blog posts, week after week. Here’s to a happy New Year, friend, and many more comments and posts, and suchforth.

  22. Thank you all for your loyalty and support! My success and growth has a lot to do with all of YOU…you push me to be a better blogger and person, and I am so grateful for all of you!

Again, I have read all of your messages, and I am flattered, smitten, honored, humbled, tickled, and thrilled. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  23. Well there you have it. The proof is in the pudding, and the pudding says you are a huge success! I am so excited for you – excited that your blog has taken off the way it has this year AND excited for what 2011 and beyond hold for you. The sky is the limit for you, babe, and I am glad to be along for at least part of the ride!

I would actually be surprised I made it that high into your commentors list considering I found you half-way through the year, save for the fact that I am a gritandglamouraholic. The numbers prove it! LOL

I am so thankful to have found you this year, and look forward to being along for the ride in 2011!

    1. Thank you again, B. It’s been a great year for so many of us. I’m just thrilled that so many of us in our little Style Nation grew through the support and help of each other. That is the icing on the cake for me. That this is an inclusive, helpful online community.

  24. There’s many reasons I enjoy reading your blog and also see your photos (outfits) and vlog.
You are a brilliant writer and I am obsessed with your fashion. You know that!
I still want to photograph you so badly one day.. and when this days comes.. it will be a studio photoshoot.

A lot of people get inspired or learn so much into blogosphere because of you!
I am so grateful that I found you (or your found me).. can’t remember.. either way.. LOVE FIRST SIGN!!

    Lots of love, Lee xoxo

    1. Thank you Lee, you know I just adore you too. One day, we’re going to have that shoot, I’m telling you!

Lots of love to you too…xoxo

  25. Hey V! Keep up the amazing work and all the best from here, Lachlan
