Friend Friday: Nail(ed)

Oh yeah, baby. I’m loving this week’s Friend Friday* topic! If you’re a regular G&G reader, you know I have confessed a nail polish addiction, waxed on about colors and brands and all kinds of nail-related baloney, and published too many gratuitous foot shots.**

This week, I’m doin’ it vloggy style again. I like that name, vlog, by the way. Because for me at least, it really is a V-log. So here are the questions we were asked:

  1. Do you keep nail polish on your fingers and toes year round?
  2. What are your go-to colors for the fingers and toes?
  3. Any tips for strengthening your nails?
  4. Do you have any nail ‘rules’ you abide by? (things like toe and finger colors must match, should never be the same, trim them all if one breaks, I dunno…)
  5. How often, if ever, do you get a manicure and/or pedicure?

Products mentioned in the video:

  • CND: Stickey Base Coat, Super Shiney Top Coat
  • Essie: Pink Parka
  • Nailtiques Protein Formula 2
  • OPI nail colors: Black Onyx, Lincoln Park After Dark, Dulce de Leche, OPI on Collins Avenue, You Don’t Know Jacques
  • Orly: La Vida Loca
  • Sally Hansen Insta-Dri: Rose Riot

  1. Love love love everything-esp. da necklace!
I’m a polish all year round girl – feels weird if i don’ have polish on my toes-like you overnight breather is a must!
My nails are stll in growing out Gel phase – arrghhhhh! Their still on the weak side but i’m layering up like you won’t believe it! Will see if they have Nailtiques somewhere online. Am having a serious giggle over the ‘Chipping’!!! I

    Have a fantastic weekend lovely!
p.s Been keeping my stash of polishes in a little fuchsia box in the fridge – keeps ’em fresh and stodge free! Will be doing with my make up soon if it stays this hot!

  2. Hey V!!

Love the vlog style!! I’m with you on the chipped nails. For a long time I was that girl with the tiny spot of polish left only on my big toe :-p. It really was like from the previous year.

Now, I take a bit better care, and I’m still growing. Nail polish and nail care will definitely be one of my next beauty investments.

  3. Thanks for the info about the sticky topcoat. I must try it, as I have a really difficult time keeping polish on my fingers. Also, you are so right about spf affecting polish. When I go to the beach it seems my pedicure is destroyed within the first hour.

And btw…LOVE your jewelry. I adore statement jewelry. And both your ring and necklace are fabulous. Have a great weekend.
    XO Piper

    1. Thank you for the compliment Piper! Yeah, I hate that sunscreen tears up a mani/pedi. At least now we know, right? Nothing to be done about it except NOT spend $65 on a deluxe pedicure just for the beach or a pool party.

You have a great weekend too!

  4. Your Vlog puts my #FBFF post to shame! Loved it tho. I also left this as a comment on my blog too, but the minx might just be the solution you are looking for with the issue with the SPF. It supposedly lasts longer than nail polish and is made of eco friendly products.

There is a whole breakdown about it here:

    The Chotto Coquette

    1. Aw, you’re sweet!

I’m going to keep pondering the Minx concept. There are several salons in my area doing Minx manis. Maybe one day!

    1. Thank you Kelly!

I am not sure who made the ring. I actually got it from a proper local jeweler and I don’t think it’s by any well-known designer. I just saw it and loved it and had to have it!

    1. Thanks Kristin! Honestly, I really used to suck at polishing my nails. It really has helped that I’ve been doing my nails almost weekly for a couple years. You have to have an orangewood stick to remove polish from the cuticle when you paint with the hand you don’t favor. I find it helps a lot!
