Military Jacket Remix: Work Casual

Military-style jacket from Forever 21, Spring 2010.

I recently scooped a military-style jacket from Forever 21 that is so well-cut, it looks tailor-made. I’m a total sucker for anything with puff-sleeves; but the nipped waist, ruffled peplum, and muted pewter-tone buttons absolutely won me over. I still can’t believe how smashing it looks on, how comfy it is, and how little I paid for it. I didn’t expect it, I have to admit. I mean it’s Forever 21, you know? And it is a dark navy, which is a shade I rarely do.

But…this jacket is my new best friend. So over the next few days, I’m going to show you just how versatile it is, and how with just one piece, you can effortlessly channel this season’s military trend.

Look 1: Work Casual

Because part of my week is spent in a proper office where the dress code is business casual, I try to make new acquisitions work double duty. I have some room for creativity in my office, but it is still a mostly conservative environment. Since I have a lot of strappy blouses and tanks, a cardigan or jacket is a necessity—so when I spotted this jacket, I knew it would be a great topper for work.

I’m also wearing a blouse by Forever 21 (tribal trend!), an Arthur Galan double buckle belt, Banana Republic cuffed linen pants, and BCBG platform pumps.
