Infrastructure Inadequacy

You’ll love this. My husband was talking to a friend of his who is in IT here in Sydney, and he asked why in the hell it takes two weeks for someone to flip a switch to hook up our Naked ADSL. The guy told him that there “aren’t enough ports” so they have to wait til one is freed up, or something to that effect. Not enough ports? I suppose that legitimizes what all us American expats know…Oz is cute and all that, but the infrastructure is still circa 1991.

Wait. That’s harsh.

It’s more like 1996.

So yeah, I’m with you Kate (see Riiiiiight, I’ll believe it when I see it) I’ll also believe it when I see it.

On the up side, my new ISP (Netspace) has impressed me to this point. They sent a welcome package with a free one-month Webflicks membership (think Netflix), and if you have an established phone line, they actually give you free access to dial-up until your ADSL is installed. Plus access to an accelerator that speeds up dial-up page loading to about seven seconds per page instead of 30. I’m liking them better than those Dodos already.

I know. Dial-up. How is that helpful? Well, in the absence of Internet for like two whole weeks or more, it’s a good work around. If you have a phone line, that is. Which I don’t. But it’s the thought that counts.
