Not to beat a dead horse (horrible expression, but you know what I mean), but I couldn’t resist revisiting this topic. If it’s not official yet, in 20 years it will be: 2007 has to be the beginning of the new Baby Boomer generation. Is it just me, or is every woman reasonably within child-bearing age either pregnant or feeling the throes of her newfound babylove?
There is something ripening in the state of Denmark. Apparently, babies are the new black.
Aside from the pregnancies of my friends and family (three dropped, two due…and I’m sure more are being contemplated even as I write), this week in celebritydom, there was yet another spate of pregnancy announcements, mostly amongst the under-thirty-and-not-married crowd: Jessica Alba, Lily Allen, and of course, today’s breaking news about the now-pregnant, 16-year-old Jamie-Lynne Spears. The tabloids are clearly frantic with glee as they attempt to get everyone’s take on the demise of the Spears clan, “report” that Meemaw Spears’ book on parenting is only “on hold, not cancelled!” and so on and so forth. Those poor people. Their bad luck is starting to rival that of the Kennedy clan. But anyway.
So in true-end-of-the-year reflection/introspection, let me recap how our celebrities alone are doing their best to give China a run for its money in the population department. To wit:
J. Lo, Halle Berry, Bridget Moynahan, Christina Aguilera, Kim Raver, Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon, Marcia Cross, Cate Blanchett, Tori Spelling, Naomi Watts, Salma Hayek, Eva Herzigova, Elizabeth Hasselbeck, Nicole Richie, Amanda Peet, Nancy Grace, Tracy Gold, Soleil Moon Frye, Teri Polo, Melissa Joan Hart, Nancy O’Dell, Jeri Ryan, Jill Hennessey, Helena Bonham Carter, Isla Fisher, Courtney Thorne-Smith, Toni Collette, Gabrielle Reece, Thalia, Poppy Montgomery, Drea de Matteo, Milla Jovovich, Samantha Harris, Charlotte Church, Christine Costner, Emma Bunton, Keri Russell, Jenna Elfman, Julia Roberts, Connie Nielsen, Sofia Coppolla, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Kimberly Williams. Hell, even Madonna, Angelina, and Mary-Louise Parker added to their broods through adoption.
Did I miss anyone? Crikey, it’s been a busy baby-makin’ year.
If you’re pondering a future business, pets or babies people. Ka-ching.
